I got to school early this morning so I could have a chance to interview Mrs. Bonet.
This is how it went.

The Atlanta Center for Civic Engagement and Service-Learning center was empty when I walked in; even though it’s open Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30.
“Knock, knock!” I yelled.
“Back here!” called a female voice from the back.
I walked through the newly furnished room with 4 computer stations and the best service learning books money can buy, lining the shelves and into Mrs. Bonet’s office.
“I’m here to find out if I can get an internship in the field I’m interested in: Journalism.” I explain to her.
Mrs. Bonet, the service learning Coordinator, is very polite and asks for my contact information. She responds, ” we are still in the development stages of the program. I’ll reply back to you when we have options.”
“Quite a few students are interested… faculty and staff from other campuses have stopped by to say hi.” Mrs. Bonet goes on to tell me.
Mrs. Bonet is the professional administrative to the staff and wasn’t able to answer my questions thoroughly. She advised that I get in contact with Deborah Gonzales, the associate vice president.
I left feeling disappointed. I got little information about any opportunities involved in Journalism and even though the Center, which hovers over the cafeteria filled with students, is still empty.
You can tell that this Center, which was opened 2 months ago, is still in the beginning stages.
I hope to report back soon with more information on how GPC students can get hands on experience in their field of study at this new center.
