Ashley wants to make YOU part of what's happening in Atlanta!

I am your youngest North American Board Missionary. I am a full time student at Georgia Perimeter College majoring in Media Journalism. My passion is working with people and that’s exactly what I do at Kensington Station Apartments where I serve as the After School Director.
I’m really enjoying my classes and being back on a regular schedule. I’m taking Business Information Systems, World History to 1500, Basic News Writing and Anthropology.
Today we watched this video before World History.
Miles and I went to the International Market and picked out some fresh Red Snapper and green beans. We fried it up with some Asian inspired marmalade. So good but the kitchen smell like a fish market.
Jesse and Colleen got in late last night from New England. I’m happy to have him home again. I used to think it’d be nice to be an only child but after two months of it I like sharing the offspring responsibility.
Heather, Ashley and I had fun jamming with the boys last night. My rhythm is getting a lot better but I still can’t play, sing and strum at the same time.
Ziggie, Heather’s rescued poodle, was the life of the party. In the morning he was so excited to get to go outside.
Mo and I drove out to PCBC to set up our missions display.
Then we went and spoke to the young marrieds Sunday school class.
Home now to work on some homework. Already?! I know… and I have 5 months to go.
My knee is healed! Hallelujah! It feels so good to be able to do things on my own again. Thanks for all your prayers.
Dad is still feeling dizzy. But he bucked up and went to speak at the missions dinner tonight. Please be praying for him.
Jesse is headed home tomorrow with his new girlfriend, Colleen. Woop woop!
My knee is feeling a lot better. Thank you for all your prayers. I have a feeling by tomorrow I’ll be able to walk again pain free to Anthropology class.
Lying in bed, feeling like Frida, I’ve found out that injuries can sometimes give you more…
Injuries give you more time to write. I’m still working on my short story The Postcard. Hopefully I can find an ending by the end of January.
Injuries give you more time to play music. I learned how to read tab so now I can work my way through new songs.
It’s like uncodeing a mystery with musical notes. I’m working on The Beatles’ Day Tripper.I like to watch my hands learn this new skill. Jesse was right when he said it’s an emotional release.
Injuries give you more time to read and create. I’ve read You Can Do It! and created a want-to-do-list with things on it like swim with manatees, learn guitar, write a book, and go sky diving.
I had time to curl my hair.
Injuries give you more time to watch movies. I’m getting into French films. It’s fun to listen for words that I grew up hearing in Tour, France as a little girl.
Lately, I’ve watched Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, Au Revior Les Enfants and Entre Nos. The first two were great directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. I’d recommended them if you like reading your movies.. Entre Nos, a Spanish film, not so much.
A Very Long Engagement is my new favorite love story.
Even though injuries give you more time to do things, I’m looking forward to doing more things outside these four walls.
My knee is still giving me trouble. I’ve been bouncing around like a battered kangaroo these past two days.
Seems like everyone in my household is feeling ill. Please pray for my family. It’s very unusual for the house to be so quite we’re usually so energetic.
I’ve been watching a lot of Psych, painted my nails, played guitar even started a novel titled, The Postcard. (It’s a work in progress…)
I read in my Bible today in Genesis where Jacob is wrestling with God and gets his hip popped out and for the rest of the week Jacob is limping around with an injury. Sounds familiar.
Tomorrow is our last day of holiday. Please pray my knee is healed so I can go to my first day of classes and visit with the mission kids.
Jessica’s on her way over to keep me company for a while.
College has been cancelled this whole week because of the inclement weather. Fine by me! Miles and I are having a lot of fun walking the 2.5 miles back and forth from his house to mine.
The hill I live on was iced over so badly that Miles’ Jeep slide half way down and almost into the neighbors yard. Everyone came out to help shovel and throw kitty litter under the tires. Finally after 45 minutes the Jeep fishtailed up.
Once we were out we went to get him some new tires.
Miles and I were getting cabin fever so we called our friends up and met up at Pizza Cafe.
About 2 years ago Miles and I were chicken fighting on the monkey bars when I fell and landed on my knee. Every since then if I sit wrong it will pop out. That’s exactly what happened last night. So now I’m hobbling around. Please pray for my left knee.Thank you Dr. Miles for caring me around. His thoughts, “You’re a heavy lil stink.”
I just found out that The Collegian, my school’s newspaper that I was the editor-in-chief for, just got nominated for 11 Georgia College Press Association awards. WOO! Go us.
Anna and I walked and met each other at the library and then walked to my house. We edited this dance video that we’d taken over the summer. Mmm warm times.
Miles took me on a date for Sunday Brunch to the Cheesecake Factory. Along with beautiful mureals on the ceiling the food was delisious. I got Baha Chicken Tacos with avocado and Miles got a juicy Kobi burger.
Miles left to serve at Pizza Cafe and I’m home now getting my binders ready for class. Which is canceled tomorrow (woohoo!) because of the snow storm coming tonight.
Mama drove me over to get new tires for my Expedition then we went over to T&G to pay the tune up bill. $1600! That’s a lot in one month. Thank you to my supporting family.
I had an appointment with Jessica today at Empire Beauty Salon. She did an amazing job with my highlights. She’s got the coloring down to a science.
Miles took me on a date to the movies. We watched The Fighter. Really liked it. Mark Wahlburg trained 4 years to play that boxing role.
Today I was a tour guide around the international village. I took the fun team from Gardendale FBC for Mexican food, we met the local mission kids and saw AK 47s.
It was fun to tell my stories of the area and get to know people who want to get out their zones and Take the Church, To the People.
Dad’s still feeling dizzy. He got some meds. Guess what the side effect was? “May cause dizziness.” Crazy.
Dinner with Tara. My favorite part? The raspberry cheesecake at the end. Tara, I still can’t believe you chew up your multivitamins every morning. You’re hardcore!
Kristen and Anna came over to chat late into the night.
What a rainy cold day today. And to make it even worse Daddy’s sick. He’s been really dizzy lately and throwing up. Please be praying for him.
Another prayer request is from Olivia Hunt, my cousin in Texas. She’s 6 months pregnant with her second baby girl when her amniotic fluids (what the baby floats in) started leaking. She was rushed to the hospital that night and was told she may have to stay here for 7 weeks! Her comment, “I didn’t know bed rest could be so…tiring.”
Lift up a prayer for them. I can’t imagine anything more frightening than your wife and baby in the hospital fighting to live.
Lord, Please put a shield of protection around my Dad and Olivia. Heal them with your amazing powers. Let all the medicines be affective and get both of them feeling strong and productive again. Amen.
I picked up my Expedition from T&G Automotive today. it cost a whopping $768 for a tune up and ignition coil. Next I have to get all new tires. It’s expensive being a grownup!
On a lighter note…for the video part of my blog I thought I’d give you a tour of my room. Miles and I finished building the headboard and I’m proud to show it off.
Going to do my first presite tour with some visiting team leaders tomorrow. Wish me luck!
The kids are still out of school so Mo and I enjoyed hiking up Stone Mountain.
We picked Miles up for lunch at Madina. That Chop Chop chicken and Beas (peas) is soo tasty. It inspires me to cook more.
I studied my Bible and did some reading. Put my bed frame together…
I wrapped a ton of presents to give away to the Kensington kids this week.
Anna came over and we swapped gifts. She got some some yummy white citrus shea butter that I like and some shower gel. I do love to smell good.
Practiced my Nirvana song on guitar thanks to my wonderful teacher: Miles.
Had to take my car into the shop. Too bad. It needed a tune up really bad that costs around $700-800 and it needs new tires one of them has a nail in it. Booo!
Thank you so much for your support that takes care of missionaries like me. Without your help how could I drive down to teach my flock?
This morning my parents and I listened to Pastor Phil preach about jumping on board with Jesus and not missing out on the tides of life. I liked it. I’m trying not to say no to new opporunities.
Later, My parents, Miles, Hannah and I drove to Atlantic Station to see the Cirque Du Soleil OVO show.. It was AMAZING. The way they twist and use their bodies is incredibly.
My favorite part was when they were jumping off a rock wall onto a trampoline.
Hannah, Rachel, Nina, Miles, Kevin, Russ and I rode down to East Atlanta to watch a New Years Punk show. It’s so inspiring to see girls rock out on stage.
I’ve been enjoying learning on my new JagMaster Miles bought me for Christmas.
The whole Cummins clan gathered around tamalles and cheese dip at Nana’s house for Christmas Eve. It’s our tradition to open presents the night before Christmas.
I got a cute scarf that can be worn 8 different ways. The crisp $50 can be worn a few differnect ways as well. ;)
Ate El Torero’s with Mile’s mom and Roxy. Delicious and I always like to practice my Spanish.
Miles and I went to buy the Kensington Kids Christmas presents for tomorrow’s party. Thank you so much to Mr. Doug Allison and his Family who made this possible with their donation.
Went to see The Tourist with Hannah. I loved the scenery but we all knew Johnny Depp had to be the mysterious Mr. Pierce, right?
Mama and I ate with the Kensington Kids at their school, Glenhaven Elementary School. They were so excited to see us outside of Kensington. You could tell how much it meant to them by the big smiles and surprised faces when they saw us enter the cafeteria.
Helped Jossie, Jocelyn and Angel at Azalea.
Went to the board meeting after Azalea. It was great to see the whole team. What a great one we have!
Dad and I drove over to 12 Stone Church to pick up 36 mini Turkeys. We’re going to hand them out tomorrow to the immigrants and refugees in Chamblee. Check back tomorrow to see the pictures.
I finished all my finals last week. History was the hardest. We had to write an essay and know exact dates. Mass Communications and Geology went over well. I’ll be able to find out my grades Monday afternoon.
To celebrate the end of my Sophomore year of college I went out to ride King at Brookwoodranch.com.
Thank you to the Acteens at FBC Jonesboro who sent a dozen homemade holiday cards for the kids. I can’t wait to see the kids’ reactions when they see they have mail.
My light kit came in for my paper lamp.
Looking forward to speaking at First Baptist Doraville, the church my parents got married in over 25 years ago.
Today were my last regular scheduled classes before the holiday break. Presented my media dream job speech. 2 minutes on the nose. Perfect.
We got our group projects back. 100.
Only 2 finals to go.
Ate Spiced Right, serious BBQ with Miles, Mo and Dad.
Helped the Jocelyn at Azalea with her grammer homework, Jossie with her spelling words and one of the Bengali mothers create a mock cover letter.
Miles and I met Russ at Ashley’s house. It looks so festive with all her Christmas lights up. We had fun singing and playing guitars out on the front porch.
